Here’s all we know about the pricing of Dot Compliance’s QMS Software. Dot Compliance offers multiple products in the compliance space. While their product names are rather hard to understand and it’s not entirely clear what differentiates them (QMS Xpress, Compliance Xpand, Enterprise Xact – they really like their “X”), our best guess is that “QMS Xpress” is their product offering QMS software.

Dot Compliance Pricing
The Dot Compliance website doesn’t list any prices which is not unusual for the shady industry of enterprises B2B sales. But we can make some educated guesses based on the pricing models of their competitors Greenlight Guru and Qualio.
Generally speaking, they cost $20k – $60k per year. Per year! On top of that, there’s a minimum commitment of somewhere between one and three years. So our best guess would be that the Dot Compliance price is somewhere in that area.
Why? Both Greenlight Guru and Qualio are investor-funded and therefore have to optimize for fast growth and high revenue, all the while not being profitable (crazy). As Dot Compliance is also investor-funded and has received $33 million of investment so far, it seems likely that they’ll simply copy the business model and pricing of Greenlight Guru and Qualio.

Beware of Lock-In
There are two aspects of vendor lock-in when it comes to QMS software. The first one is contractual, and the second one is on the software level.
On the contractual side, most enterprise QMS software vendors try to lock in their clients for 1 – 3 years. Given that Dot Compliance likely operates similarly to their competitors, it’s fair to assume that they’ll try to sign similar contracts with their customers, too.
Regarding software lock-in, QMS software vendors try to make it hard or impossible for customers to export their data in a structured way – like, not as PDFs, but instead as machine-readable data which can be imported into another eQMS software. We couldn’t find any indication for this sort of export feature on Dot Compliance’s website, so our assumption currently is that it’s not possible and that there’s significant software lock-in once you’ve chosen their QMS product.
Deciding on eQMS software is a very big decision for a company. And, given that you’re not getting any sort of trial access, have to commit for multiple years and won’t be able to export structured data, there are significant risks involved when choosing Dot Compliance.
Dot Compliance Pricing Is Intransparent
While their website lists different features of their software, it’s not clear how those interact with their pricing model – do you have to pay for each additional feature? And do you have to pay for additional user seats?
You’ll only receive an offer after having scheduled a sales call with one of their salespeople. It seems likely that they’ll try to assess how much money they can extract out of your company.
No Free Trials
You can’t self-start a free trial on the Dot Compliance website, so you can’t “try before you buy”.
You’re stuck with making your purchasing decision based on the sales call.
Conclusion
What’s the Dot Compliance price, and should you choose this QMS software? In the end, you should be making this sort of software decision with a very rational approach: What sort of feature requirements do you have? Have you tried out the software for your use case, and does it work well? What do your team members think after they’ve used the software?
All of this obviously gets very hard, given that Dot Compliance doesn’t seem to offer a free trial on their website. So you’re left guessing, and the decision becomes rather risky as you’ll have to commit to a multi-year contract with significant lock-in.
My recommendation is to choose QMS software which allows you to try before you buy and which doesn’t lock you in. I’m obviously biased as we’re offering Formwork, our own eQMS software. But there are good reasons for that: You can cancel every month, you can export your data any time and move to another system. Also, we’re profitable and not investor-owned, so you are safe with us.
