No Lock-In, Ever: Formwork Batch Export

Dr. Oliver Eidel

When we built Formwork, we had two goals:

  1. Don’t be evil.
  2. Don’t suck.

While this may seem obvious for any software product in a free-market economy, it is not so obvious for regulatory software. In the enterprise software market, people who make purchasing decisions are often confused, and crappy software with insane pricing models and vendor lock-in stays in the market.

Talking about vendor lock-in - we just shipped the Batch Export feature to Formwork. It allows you to export your entire QMS with one click. It’s so cool! Check it out:

It enables you to export documents and records, either as PDF or markdown files. Yup, you got that right: You can export everything in the actual markdown (source) format.

And here’s how a Batch Export looks:

Batch Export Overview

That means there’s zero vendor lock-in - because you could literally just export everything as markdown, dump it in a git repository on GitHub and cancel your Formwork account.

For less technically proficient people (like auditors) you can export everything as PDF.

Talking about auditors, there’s also a neat twist to this: You can select whether to export the most recent released version of a document, or the most recent draft. For an audit, you’d want to export the most recent released version, while for your personal backup you’d probably prefer the most recent draft.

So, there you have it - zero vendor lock-in. Export any time and move your QMS somewhere else, if you want.

Batch Export is a Formwork Pro feature for now. But all the basic QMS functionality in Formwork is free, like creating documents and records in a compliant way. Check it out :)

On a slighty different note: You want to get your medical software certified under MDR but don't know where to start? No worries! That's why we built the Wizard. It's a self-guided video course which helps you create your documentation yourself. No prior knowledge required. You should check it out.

Or, if you're looking for the most awesome (in our opinion) eQMS software to manage your documentation, look no further. We've built Formwork, and it even has a free version!

If you're looking for human help, did you know that we also provide some limited consulting? It's limited because we are not many people. We guide startups from start to finish in their medical device compliance.

Congratulations! You read this far.

I'm a medical doctor, software engineer and regulatory dude. I'm also the founder of OpenRegulatory.

Through OpenRegulatory, I've helped 100+ companies with their medical device compliance. While it's also my job that we stay profitable, I try to dedicate a lot of my time towards writing free content like our articles and templates. Maybe that will make consulting unnecessary some day? :)
