When we built Formwork, we had two goals:
- Don’t be evil.
- Don’t suck.
While this may seem obvious for any software product in a free-market economy, it is not so obvious for regulatory software. In the enterprise software market, people who make purchasing decisions are often confused, and crappy software with insane pricing models and vendor lock-in stays in the market.
Talking about vendor lock-in – we just shipped the Batch Export feature to Formwork. It allows you to export your entire QMS with one click. It’s so cool! Check it out:
It enables you to export documents and records, either as PDF or markdown files. Yup, you got that right: You can export everything in the actual markdown (source) format.
And here’s how a Batch Export looks:
That means there’s zero vendor lock-in – because you could literally just export everything as markdown, dump it in a git repository on GitHub and cancel your Formwork account.
For less technically proficient people (like auditors) you can export everything as PDF.
Talking about auditors, there’s also a neat twist to this: You can select whether to export the most recent released version of a document, or the most recent draft. For an audit, you’d want to export the most recent released version, while for your personal backup you’d probably prefer the most recent draft.
So, there you have it – zero vendor lock-in. Export any time and move your QMS somewhere else, if you want.
Batch Export is a Formwork Pro feature for now. But all the basic QMS functionality in Formwork is free, like creating documents and records in a compliant way. Check it out 🙂
