MDCG 2026-3: 2026 EMDN version history, explained

The version history of the EMDN for 2026 — the authoritative record of the nomenclature as it stands after the annual revision.

MDCG 2026-3 is the 2026 version history of the European Medical Device Nomenclature — the authoritative spreadsheet of the nomenclature as it stands after the 2025–2026 annual revision. Together with MDCG 2026-1 (the decisions) and MDCG 2026-2 (the change log), it completes the yearly EMDN documentation set.

Who this applies to

Regulatory teams selecting or verifying EMDN codes for device registration, and anyone who needs the current authoritative state of the nomenclature rather than the delta — for example when assigning a code to a new device or rebuilding an internal EMDN mapping from scratch.

What the document contains

A spreadsheet capturing the EMDN's 2026 state and its versioning. It contains 8,535 historical code records: 8,516 active and 19 inactive. For each code it shows the current v.2026 term, previous terms, terminal-level status, and the release in which it was introduced or last changed. Where MDCG 2026-2 tells you what changed this cycle, this document tells you what the nomenclature now is. The EMDN's structure is explained in MDCG 2021-12; the update procedures are MDCG 2024-2 (annual revision) and MDCG 2025-1 (ad hoc).

What this means for you, practically

  1. Assign codes from this version. When registering in EUDAMED, pick codes from the current nomenclature state, not from a cached copy of last year's.
  2. Pin your reference. If your QMS or software stores EMDN codes, record which EMDN version they came from — it makes the next annual diff (via MDCG 2026-2's successor) mechanical instead of archaeological.
