FormlyAI Pricing: Not Good For Startups (2026 Update + Dovetail)

Update (2025): Formly has removed its transparent pricing table and now only offers bespoke, "contact sales" individual pricing (sadly). See below for the old vs. new pricing model.

Update (2026): Nope, this changed again - Formly is now mentioning a "from 300€ / month" price for their "QMS Plus" offering, while also introducing a new "Dovetail" product for which no pricing is mentioned at all.

Everything you need to know about FormlyAI pricing - FormlyAI is a new eQMS software for medical device manufacturers targeting EU MDR and FDA compliance.

Generally speaking, FormlyAI is one of very few eQMS software providers targeting startup customers. In other words, they don't go for the mid-size and large enterprise companies, even though those usually spend (way) more money on their eQMS software. This is cool, because in the past, it was only us trying to serve these startups with our eQMS software, OpenRegulatory Formwork.

Let's talk FormlyAI pricing. Up until around mid-2025, Formly offered a transparent pricing model and published their pricing on their website. Unfortunately, it has disappeared in the meantime and has now been replaced with some very generic content instead.

Before we get into that, let's look at their old, transparent pricing model. Here's how it looked:
The old Formly pricing table - removed some time in mid-2025.
Again, this is the old pricing as the current pricing has changed. Still, here are our pros and cons which we mentioned at the time:

FormlyAI Old Pricing Pros
  • The pricing is transparent: Even though there's an option to "contact sales", they also display the actual prices on their pricing page. Prices for paid tiers range from 499$ / product / month up to 899$, and there's also a custom tier with higher prices.
  • Monthly options are available: This is pretty cool, because especially startups usually can't commit to multi-year contracts. FormlyAI offers you to pay monthly, even though that does increase the price you pay substantially.

But not every aspect of their pricing is great. There are also quite a few drawbacks. Let's look at them:

FormlyAI Old Pricing Cons
  • More expensive than the competition: The only other provider offering eQMS software for startups, OpenRegulatory Formwork (hey, that's us!), offers better pricing (free, 99€, 499€ / month) and the software is a much less risky choice as they've been on the market for longer and more companies have passed certification with it already.
  • Pay per product: The FormlyAI pricing tiers offer unlimited user seats, which is great, but the pricing scales up depending on how many products your company has. This can't be understated. While it initially sounds great to pay, say, 899$ / month as a startup (albeit being rather expensive, see above), your bill might suddenly double if you decide to launch a second product. Ugh!
Given that many startups, when they scale up, decide to launch (multiple!) new medical devices, there'll likely be a very "rude awakening" for those companies as their bill will double, triple or multiply even higher.

FormlyAI's New Pricing In Mid-2025

Alas, as mentioned above, this transparent pricing model has been taken down by Formly. Instead, they now replaced it with this "pricing table":

New Formly pricing "table".

I'm not really sure whether this thing deserves the name "pricing table" as it's mostly just two boxes and a bunch of text.

The main take-away here is that they're trying to pivot to a custom, bespoke pricing model where they try to come up with individual prices per company. We've seen this with Greenlight Guru and Qualio in the past - the goal here is to extract as much money per customer as possible.

Which is sad.

Formly started out by looking so promising: They'd offer transparent pricing, free trials, and a software targeted towards startups. In other words.. they were our competitor! Nowadays, unfortunately, they're possibly going down the path which all eQMS companies in recent history have trodden down: Go for higher-paying customers, go for larger companies, move to custom pricing, reduce transparency.

Too bad.

Then again, we no longer have a competitor when it comes to offering eQMS software for startups.

Formly Pricing Update in 2026

Update: Things changed again in mid-2026. Here's how Formly's pricing looks like now:
Formly "QMS Plus" product pricing introduced in 2026

This is a bit of a mixed bag: Yes, a price is mentioned again ("from 300€ / month"), but I'm not sure whether this really adds significant value. First off, it's a minimum price ("from 300€"), and it's really unclear what the conditions are for qualifying for that price (does any startup get 300€ / month?); also, it's unknown how that price scales up when you need more seats.

Also, the "Start 30-day trial" button leads to a call scheduling page, so this is not really a self-serve sign-up and trial as the button might suggest. Hm. "Get started today" is a bit of a misnomer as it's very unlikely you'll be able to schedule a call the same day.

Formly Dovetail vs. QMS Plus
One especially confusing part is that Formly has introduced a new product called "Dovetail". Here's the comparison table from their website:
Formly Dovetail vs. QMS Plus comparison table

It's not entirely clear what the difference is - I can't imagine that a money-back guarantee is the only differentiating factor, and I'm not sure what a "named senior lead" is - like, is that a human consultant who works with you?

To make matters even more confusing, the pricing table above referred to the "QMS Plus" product, not the Dovetail product. The benefit of the QMS Plus pricing section was that it at least mentioned a number ("from 300€"). The Dovetail pricing section, on other hand, probably doesn't even deserve the name of a "pricing section":
Formly Dovetail "pricing" section

So yeah. You can choose a free discovery session which, as the name suggests, costs €0, or you can choose Dovetail, for which the pricing is unclear and you'll have to book the aforementioned free discovery session. Hm.

Make of that what you want - I feel like the Formly pricing and product changes in 2026 create more questions than answers.

Conclusion

In summary, FormlyAI's pricing did have some cool aspects, notably the transparency, monthly billing and unlimited user seats.

All of that is gone now. They're just another eQMS software company with intransparent pricing. They might become the next Greenlight Guru or Qualio.

Is that good or bad? Depends. If you're an investor in Formly (they recently raised €2M), then that might be good.

If you're a startup looking for a transparent, affordable, lean eQMS software, then that's probably bad news.

The good news is that you can just choose our eQMS software instead. Our pricing is transparent, our company OpenRegulatory is 100% founder-owned, no venture capital investors (= no future sale of the company). Our product is called Formwork. You should check it out.
